AI-Powered Case Prioritization to Support Earlier Review of Malignant Cases
TumorDetect uses AI to analyze whole slide images and surface cases with features suspicious for malignancy, helping pathologists prioritize cases that are likely to require additional, time-intensive follow-up (e.g., confirmatory stains, biomarker testing, or secondary review) so those steps can begin sooner and sign-out delays can be reduced. In a simulation study evaluating the impact of AI-assisted triage, cases were reordered based on predicted importance and compared to standard case review order across 10,000 runs. The results showed that TumorDetect improved average case rankings and increased the median percentage of malignant cases reviewed in the first half of the day from 50% to 71%. By identifying cancer across multiple tissue types and surfacing AI impressions directly within the case list, TumorDetect shows promise in supporting more efficient workflows and enabling earlier review of critical cases.
